JACKSON, Miss. — The Spring Southern Region Military & Civilian Job Fair geared specifically toward military veterans will be held April 9, at the Biloxi Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Mississippi Department of Employment Security announced today.

This is the second of Governor Phil Bryant’s three planned Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes Job Fairs. These events are part of the year-long effort that began with Gov. Bryant proclaiming 2013 as the Year to Hire Mississippi Heroes and are an integral part of MDES’ Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes campaign.

"Hiring a returning hero is a good move for businesses, particularly in South Mississippi," Gov. Phil Bryant said. "These men and women gain valuable skills during their military service, and this experience can be a real asset to employers. We will continue working to connect veterans and their families with job opportunities."

The next Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes Job Fair will be June 27 in Tupelo.

MDES is asking employers around the state to take to pledge to put veterans and their spouses and dependents to work.  To aid in this effort, Gov. Bryant has signed into law a bill that requires state licensing agencies to consider military training when veterans apply for professional certification in like positions.  The legislation also makes it easier for military spouses who hold professional certification in another state to get temporary approval to work in that profession in Mississippi while navigating the permanent approval process.

Employers who wish to take the pledge can sign up at their local WIN Job Center or on the MDES website at mdes.ms.gov.  They can post jobs on the website or WIN Job Center personnel will assist employers with job postings.  MDES will screen and refer qualified veterans for those job openings.
