Approved WIOA Programs

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security, through contract with the state’s four workforce areas, offers approved job training activities for adults, dislocated workers, and youth.

Please Note: The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA) was signed into law on July 22, 2014 and supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA). For more information, click here.

To receive adult training services, an individual must be 18 years of age or older, a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen, and in compliance with the registration provisions of the Military Selective Service Act. Individuals who have been terminated, laid off or who have received notice of unemployment  and individuals who are unemployed due to economic conditions may qualify for training as dislocated workers. Eligible youth must be 18 to 21 years of age, low income, and meet at least one of six specific barriers to employment. Please contact your nearest WIN Job Center for specific eligibility criteria.

Training opportunities are funded through Individual Training Accounts or ITAs. This site identifies training programs eligible to receive ITA funds. It is designed to help customers make informed training choices by describing the programs/institutions in detail. Unemployed workers and career advisors may search for state-approved ITA training opportunities by geographic area, program of study, a specific training institution name or keyword. Information describing regional labor market demands, wage expectations and financial aid opportunities is also available. Unemployed individuals are encouraged to carefully research and explore all options with an experienced WIN Job Center representative before investing in a career choice. Please be reminded that WIOA financial assistance and service policies vary from area to area.
