Services and Resources for Laid-off Workers

 

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) provides Rapid Response services to help laid-off workers by providing information on services and resources to help them transition to a new job as quickly as possible. This includes the Rapid Response book, which contains information to assist affected workers with personal and immediate needs and is available as a PDF at the link below.

WIN Job Centers

These centers provide easy access to employment services such as job search, retraining services, resume preparation assistance, free use of computer, copiers, fax machines and telephone for job search activities. They also offer priority service for veterans.

Many WIN Job Centers have free workshops on job search skills training, basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and more. Contact the nearest center to find what is available.

Mississippi Association of Community Action Agencies (MACAA)

MACAA provides programs and services to help with a variety of needs, including childcare, transportation, etc. Contact your local Community Action Agency to find out about specific programs in your area.

Health Insurance Marketplace for individual or family coverage

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Through Mississippi Division of Medicaid for uninsured children up to age 19. Allowable income levels are higher to be eligible.

Unemployment Insurance

Mississippi Community and Junior Colleges

Staffs of Community and Junior Colleges are available at WIN Job Centers on a scheduled basis and may help provide information and assistance with a variety of services such as short-term training and retraining opportunities and career and aptitude assessments.
